Download Previous Version
Information on the Previous Version
This version of the easyBiograph software requires a Java runtime environment. You can view the steps for installing this under “system requirements”. If you are unsure whether you already have Java on your computer, you can also do this after you have installed the easyBiograph.
You need to unpack the .zip file after downloading it. In the Windows Explorer, for example, you can do this by right-clicking on it and selecting “Extract all”.
Start the software by double-clicking on the file easybiograph_1.0.jar which you can find in the folder easyBiograph 1.0 (unless you changed the destination in the previous step).
If you cannot launch the software by double-clicking, you need to download a current version of Java to your computer (see system requirements).
The easyBiograph software is based on Java, a platform-independent programming language, which means that it requires a runtime environment (Java Runtime Environment, abbreviated JRE). For security reasons, we generally recommend a current version with long-time support (LTS). Support for Java 8 is planned until May 2026.
Please note that the commercial use of the Java Standard Edition by Oracle has been liable to a fee since 2019. In terms of a free-of-cost alternative, the open source software OpenJDK is available from several providers (e.g., AdoptOpenJDK and Redhat).
You can find further operating system-specific information below.
Windows
On AdoptOpenJDK, an installation programme for your operating system is automatically suggested. From the selection options, we recommend “OpenJDK 8 (LTS)” and “HotSpot”.
Windows (without administration rights):
- Open the website https://adoptopenjdk.net/releases.html
- Select the version “OpenJDK 8 (LTS)”, the operating system “Windows”, and the architecture “x86”.
- Click on the download .zip button for the “JRE” package.
- Unzip the package, change the name of the folder containing the “bin” folder to “jre”, and move it to the easyBiograph1.0 folder.
- Download the file easyBiograph_Win.zip, unzip easyBiograph.bat from it, and move this to the easyBiograph1.0 folder.
- Double-click on easyBiograph.bat to start the easyBiograph app.
Linux
In most Linux distributions, a current version of Java (version 6 or later) is already embedded. If this is not the case, we recommend installing the current LTS version of OpenJDK using the mechanisms of the respective Linux distribution.
Alternatively, you can also use the installation packages of AdoptOpenJDK or Oracle, just like for Windows.
MAC OS
The latest versions of Mac OS support Java 6. Should your version of Mac have problems nevertheless, run a software update in the “Apple” menu. Detailed information is available at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338?viewlocale=de_DE&locale=de_DE
Under Mac OS X, the software works just as described here. In its operation, however, there are some differences compared to PCs.
- Instead of STRG (CTRL) under Windows, you have to press the CTRL or COMMAND key on the Mac keyboard.
- On the latest Macbooks, the described right-hand click on the mousepad corresponds to a click with two fingers.
